Got my first random hug from an old patient today.
She squeezed good too. She was a neat sweet ol’ lady. Not even a tear; it was a happy, thankful hug for all the things I’ve (or will) done for her once I’m done with this edumacation. All I did was talk to her. Or, rather.. just let her talk. Weird reason, which is why it was a surprise. She prefaced it with, “now hold on, you’re getting a hug too!” Hugs rock.
Halfway through family med rotation, and I barely spend any time with any patient at a time. We’re barely there long enough to even see a patient more than once. This was a good halfway point reward.
