Dollars for Docs: Med Students Push to Stop Drug... →
It’s a quick 4 minute video with my friends Shahram Ahari - a badass among the pharmfree movment and John Brockman (M4). I’ve had past gripes at my medical school about this issue, and although our school has some policies on the issue, we have the same problem with enforcement. It is still up to us to responsibly police our peers. If there’s no one to watch and enforce, any...

Massive headaches, dizziness. I thought it was...
It’s not.  Classic signs of PCS. Shit.  I’m better than this, right? Nobody likes to admit their own weakness or mortality. You hit your head really hard, and you kind of feel ok. Nothing too bad - stay in the hospital for a bit just to be sure, and then things get better. And then they start to get worse. Curses on a thousand pink fluffy bunnies, this bloody stings. I wanna kick...

Thought running.
I run north, despite the fact my lead legs are crusted with rubber cement.  I run past the stop signs, four lane highways, and the overpopulated cemetery towards the north. I don’t stop. I will not stop. The air’s icicles stab at my lungs from the inside, begging me to stop, and still I run. The wind doesn’t want me to run north. It pushes me back, or east, or west - anywhere...

Tales of Anti-Choice →
“I have done several abortions on women who have regularly picketed my clinics, including a 16 year old schoolgirl who came back to picket the day after her abortion, about three years ago. During her whole stay at the clinic, we felt that she was not quite right, but there were no real warning bells. She insisted that the abortion was her idea and assured us that all was OK. She went...

Stop "corrective rape" in South Africa →
thenewfilo: From a Cape Town safehouse for survivors of ‘corrective rape,’ the women created a petition on Change.org targeting South African Justice Minister Jeffrey Radebe. Please, they wrote, declare ‘corrective rape’ a hate crime, which would both empower and require South African police to take a harder line on the vicious crime. Click here to add your name to the petition. More than...

AMSA PharmFree Scorecard →
The 2010 AMSA PharmFree Scorecard will be released tomorrow! Check out www.amsascorecard.org and see what your school got! As the future of medicine it is extremely important that we compose ourselves in a way that will put patients before profits. Greed costs lives. Medical Schools serve as role models for future physicians - their actions influence how we live our professional lives. By...

A spy for anti-choice. →
The “spy” that’s mentioned here? He fucking goes to our school and is the president/creator of our anti-choice group on campus (created in opposition to our Med Students for Reproductive Choice and Health Group). I was present at the creation, and back then, we could vote on what groups to approve. I voted for it originally because I believed in free speech. As much as I...

Of all my friends who have changed their fb pic,...
To those that at least have the status, thanks for the minuscule extra effort it takes to at least post why you’re doing this. I will concede to the fact that this promotes a tiny tiny amount of awareness. Some may even go on to search more about what they can do. You could argue that the discussion about childhood violence wouldn’t even have occurred without the change in profile pic....

A group on campus, Students for Life, was made only as a counterpoint to our Students for Reproductive Choice and Health group. They had a speaker today, and this is what she was about.  Don’t get me wrong, God/Religion can be great, but this sounded more of an indoctrination lecture than about how inspirational S/He can be.  my mind is in a whirlwind right now. Holy crap, that was like...
